Many people love to play snooker. It is a game played on tables of various sizes however a regulated table for professional snooker players measures 6 foot by 12 foot.
A total of 22 balls are used to play the game. 15 red balls, 6 colour balls and one cue ball. Each ball carries different points. The red ball=1, the yellow=2, the green=3, the brown=4, the blue=5, the pink=6, and the black=7.
The entire object of the game is to score more points than your opponent. There are two ways in which a player can gain points. One is to pot the correct ball and the other way you can gain points is if your opponent commits a foul.
The rules:
If you want to play snooker professionally it is important that you know the rules of the game.
1- A player can stay on the table once he continues to pot the correct balls.
2- The first ball the player hits must be the correct ball also.
3- When you first come onto the table the first ball to be hit and potted is a red. Then you can choose a colour of your choice to hit and pot. Basically you must alternate between red and coloured balls until there are no reds left. Then you must hit and pot the coloured balls in an ascending order according to their point value.
4- The coloured balls are always put back on the table in their correct position as long as there are reds left. If a red ball is accidentally potted it is not put back on the table.
5- If the frame is tied with just the black ball left on the table then the first player to pot the black ball is the winner.
- When you play snooker it is considered a foul if a ball leaves the table.
- In international snooker it is also considered a foul if a player causes the cue ball to jump in an attempt to clear a ball that is causing an obstruction.
- Another way to commit a foul is if you hit or pot a ball that you where not meant to pot according to the rules.
If a player commits any of these fouls the other player is rewarded with a point and the player who committed the foul must leave the table. However the next player can request that the player remains on the table. Once he has made this request he cannot withdraw it.
In general snooker is a game of skill and is enjoyed by many all around the world. You can make your own rules when you play snooker at home, once both players agree to the rules. However when playing professionally the rules must be strictly adhered to in order to win the game.
